FAQ

Are VLAN-toolbox Series switches compatible with major AV protocols, and do they require testing for each protocol?

Yes, VLAN-toolbox Series switches are compatible with a wide range of AV protocols, as most of them operate over standard TCP/IP/UDP packets. We focus on IEEE-compliant protocols, which ensures broad compatibility across AV industry standards like NDI™, Dante™, AES67, ST-2110, IPMX, MA-Net, and many more. While some switches in the industry may claim protocol-specific validation, it's important to know that as long as the protocols adhere to IEEE standards, they should work seamlessly.

Specific protocol-related issues, such as devices not recognizing multicast, are often related to the device configuration rather than the switch itself. Our switches are rigorously tested to ensure they meet industry standards, allowing you to deploy them with confidence across diverse AV setups.

Can I enable or disable DHCP on the VLAN-toolbox, and is it possible to set a custom DHCP range?

Yes, the VLAN-toolbox allows you to enable or disable the DHCP server, and you can also set a custom DHCP range. For detailed instructions on how to configure this, please refer to the "DHCP Server" section in the User Manual.

Can I request a VLAN-toolbox with a specific optical connectors that isn’t listed on the website?

Yes, we can produce VLAN-toolbox devices with any optical connector type you need, even if it’s not listed on our website. If you already have optical cables with a specific connector, we can customize the VLAN-toolbox to be compatible with it. For more details, please contact us directly or reach out to your local distributor if one is available in your country.

Can VLAN-toolbox Series switches support MA-Net and allow reading it from the console?

Yes, VLAN-toolbox Series switches can support protocols like MA-Net by using specific VLAN configurations, such as VLAN70(7) - Light-over-IP. This setup enables smooth operation of these protocols without issues. However, MA-Net is a proprietary protocol that typically requires a MA-lighting desk to fully control or change settings directly from the console.

Regarding network communication types, it’s essential to note:

  • Broadcast is a one-to-all communication, sending data to all devices on the network.
  • Unicast is a one-to-one communication, specific to a single device.
  • Multicast is a one-to-many communication, where data is sent only to devices that request it.

MA-Net often utilizes unicast for closed-loop communication, which is compatible with VLAN-toolbox Series switches.

How is working DMX-A backup on DXD merger

SETUP: "DMX-A backup by DMX-B" mode :
- normal DMX line is A
- when signal is lost, DMX B take hands on it.
- then when DMX-A comes live again, does it take back the control automatically.

I'm trying to dim a dimmer channel, but it gets stuck on 50% and I'm unable to dim it to zero.

There is probably (a 90% chance) a problem with MOC3051 device used as a optical isolation and driver of triac. Since 2013, we have received a number of service calls, when Farchild made semiconductor failure for unknown reason. The replacement of MOC3051 sorts out the problem. Most of the SRS Group dimmers have already precise sockets installed inside so the replacement is easy. However, on some models you still need to de-solder the DIP8 and replace it by a new one. Due to the RM in between of device's legs, you're unable to use a precise socket.

In case of this problem, please contact us for the spare part.

What is right setup for my "piano type" DIP switch?

SRS Group marks "0" as OFF position, that is usually located on the bottom side of the DIP switch.

To activate the switch, move the lever to the upper position according to the numbers located on the device rather than numbers on the DIP switch.

See the picture below as an example of correct DMX start address setting for #1.

What is the difference between French Schuko and (German) Schuko?
