The Yugoslav Drama Teatar was founded in 1947, by the decree of Josip Broz Tito, as a Yugoslav theater that represented the new beginning of a common state. The best artists from all parts of former Yugoslavia were invited to create a theater of high class, domestic and foreign, under the contemporary artistic direction of the famous pre-war director Bojan Stupica.
